A basic economy ticket cannot be changed once it has been purchased. But if you do it within 24 hours of booking, you can cancel your ticket and get a refund.

For non-refundable tickets, travellers will be charged a $200 cancellation fee for domestic flights and a $750 cancellation fee for international flights by American Airlines. You won't be assessed a cancellation fee, though, if you cancel your reservation within 24 hours of making it.

A non-refundable ticket cannot be fully refunded. The cancellation fee will be deducted from the total cost, and the balance will be credited to your account for a future trip.
